Larian Gegar for Agathians – May 04, 2014
Race today, “Larian Gegar for Agathians”. The Agathians is a shelter for currently 42 boys that are given a chance by finding a safe place and getting education, that they otherwise wouldn’t get. Thus today’s run was a charity run.
Distance I measured was exactly 10km. Finished that in 44min:26sec, meaning an average pace of 4min:24sec with an elevation of 177m. After the Earth Run two weeks ago I was back for the 2nd time at Universiti Malaya, running Bukit Cinta the 3rd and 4th time today. While I said last time I won’t run this hill anymore, I lost my fear today and I will certainly be back to run this route in the future.
I finished 3rd in the Men Veteran category. Closed this running week with a good race. I didn’t push to the maximum, didn’t had to and didn’t want to, as I trained too hard the last few weeks, leaving me tired out after last weekend race. Took it easy this week to recover, hoping to be at close to my best next Sunday for the Kuantan Half Marathon.
The event today was well organized. With 1,400 registered runners the crowd this morning had a decent size for the venue. It was again a bit humid but that didn’t translate in a big problem for the run itself. Parking and facilities were good, certainly supported by me coming 1 hour before the race, when it was not yet crowded.
For the 10km, two loops had to be covered. Around 1km after the start there was a first water station, which I used for a sip of water. Overall I passed 5 water stations, which is great for somebody like me who heats up quickly during a race. With Bukit Cinta not being the only slope to master for this race and as can be seen by the elevation of 177m, the race was quite hilly, thus relatively slow average pace.
Upon finishing there was plenty of water and fruits available. Guess I had quarter of a water melon today. Even though the prize giving ceremony dragged a bit, the 1.5 hours went by relatively fast. The MC was great and very entertaining. A short flash mob by some students and a breakdance performance by one of the boys from the Agathians shelter made the time pass quite fast.
With Tupperware being one of the sponsors I also brought some stuff back home that made my wife happy, so overall a close to be perfect morning I gues
